The costs of a mediation are not governed by any particular costs regime. The amount of the mediator's fees can be freely agreed between the parties and the mediator and should be agreed in advance. Most mediators charge on the basis of hourly and daily rates.
In most mediations the mediator will not be required to review voluminous documentation. His preparation time is therefore relatively short. The mediation itself normally takes a couple of hours. For this reason mediation is seen as a very cost effective alternative dispute resolution procedure.
