In the course of a project adjudication process an independent and qualified third party (the adjudicator) will take a summary decision on a technical, economical or legal issue related to a specific, often very comprehensive project. The decision is taken on short notice.
Also in shipping, project adjudication can be useful, in particular in connection with shipbuilding and ship repairs. If disputes appear between a shipyard and the buyer during the phase of construction, adjudicators can come to a speedy decision which avoids substantial delay in completing the work.
The GMAA Adjudictation Rules are presently only available as draft; they still need to be approved by the General Assembly of GMAA.
